Tom Obey
Isaiah 40:31 - But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weak, they will walk and not be faint. [NIV]

Tom chose this scripture as his life verse.  You will find Tom on the run most of the time doing various tasks for BBC.
 
In 1968, Tom married his high school sweetheart.  He and Lori have been active in ministry at Bangor Baptist Church since 1970.  Tom began teaching a junior high Sunday school class in  the mid 70's and has since taught senior high youth, college and career, as well as Senior Saints...but has spent the past ten years or more teaching Committed Couples - a class to help young couples build a strong foundation in Christ to make their home and relationships stable.  He truly believes Satan wants our homes destroyed but knows Christ can build them strong enough to persevere.
 
In 2006, Pastor Jerry asked Tom to become his Assistant Pastor.  Our church ministry has many demands, and Tom considers it a privilege to be used in any way.  He has a strong love for Bangor Christian Schools as both of his daughters attended K-12, and he now has four of his five grandchildren enrolled.  Being the General Manager for WHCF/WHMX for seventeen years makes these stations very dear to his heart, so any continued involvement is a blessing to him.  He is the administrator for The Shepherd Godparent Home, BBC boarding-home for pregnant girls.  He has also been educated to assist individuals with estate planning.  Tom believes God's word is clear "for a man to leave his house in order."

Christians should have wills to protect those they love as well as any ministry they choose.

Tom is also responsible for developing small groups within our church family.  These groups have proved to be very favorable as individuals become more personable and intimate in these small meetings.  We have groups meeting almost every night of the week, and new groups are beginning each week.  There are groups for everyone....single men, single women, couples with children, as well as couples in their empty nests years.  If you would like to be in a group, please contact Tom, and he will find the right setting for you.
